Placenta Encapsulation

The placenta is known as the tree of life; an organ that your body grows new each time there is a pregnancy to nourish the growing baby.  It is a powerhouse for hormone production during pregnancy, which makes it no surprise that once it is delivered, and in the days and weeks after birth a woman goes through so many ups and downs related to hormonal changes. Wouldn’t it be nice if there was something to ease the transition?

In other cultures, the placenta is seen as a sacred thing and there are many rituals to honor it. However, in North America we see it only as human waste and do not appreciate the benefits that can come from some type of consumption. Placenta Encapsulation has become increasingly popular over the last few decades. While it becomes more and more popular, mothers everywhere are citing  Placenta Encapsulation as the reason for increased energy and milk production, as well as decreased instances of baby blues and postpartum depression.

How do you encapsulate a placenta?

Using traditional methods, the placenta is steamed and then dehydrated. Your postpartum placenta specialist will come to your home for this two-day process. The encapsulation process will take about two hours each day. Once complete, the dried placenta is placed into capsules for the new mother to consume in the weeks following birth. We value and follow strict standards set in place to protect ourselves and our clients. From only encapsulating in the client’s home, to honoring all standards and sanitation guidelines set in place by Blood-borne Pathogens certifications. The end result is a jar full of capsules to help ease the transition into motherhood.

What is a placenta tincture?

A portion of the dried placenta powder can be used to make a tincture. This happens by steeping the powder in alcohol for at least six weeks. This will provide a remedy thought to be good for hormonal imbalances and ease symptoms that are the result of PMS, stress, transitional periods, and menopause. Since the tincture does not require refrigeration and has a very long shelf-life (forever according to some herbalists), it can be used long after the initial pills from encapsulation are finished. A tincture is a wonderful add-on to encapsulation services.
